Instructional Designer- 100% Virtual

Campbell, CA 95008

Posted: 09/11/2024 Job Category: Instructional Design - eLearning Job Number: 14491

Job Description

We are seeking an Instructional Designer to update a web-based interactive simulation for a continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system app. This app enables users to check their glucose levels without finger-pricking, and the simulation will assist call-center agents in troubleshooting customer issues. These agents, though responsible for customer support, do not have access to the app and have never seen it, which makes troubleshooting more challenging. The current simulation, developed approximately four years ago, needs to be updated to reflect the new version of the app. Our client is soft releasing their new app in November, with a full release in January. The consultant will determine whether to update the existing simulation or create a new one from scratch for the updated Libre app. The work will be done on a fixed-fee basis.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate the existing interactive simulation of the CGM product and determine whether to update the current simulation or develop a new one.
  • Review existing release notes and documentation to identify updates needed for the simulation.
  • Develop a fixed-fee proposal based on the results of evaluation and review of the existing app and release notes
  • Compare the current simulation with the new app version to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders, providing guidance on best practices, improvements, and instructional design strategies.
  • Maintain open and frequent communication with the client throughout the project lifecycle to ensure alignment with expectations.

Top Skills/Experience Requirements:
  • Instructional Design Expertise: Demonstrated ability to guide clients on best practices for updating simulations, creating engaging learning experiences, and leveraging modern instructional design techniques.
  • Effective Communication: Strong consultative skills to foster a collaborative working relationship with the client, providing ongoing updates and feedback throughout the process.
  • Simulation Design Experience: Proven experience in designing or updating interactive simulations for technical products, ideally involving software or app interfaces.

Project Deliverables:
  • Updated or new simulation for the CGM product.

Content Details:
  • 100% existing content: No new content creation required. Consultant will update the current simulation based on provided documentation (release notes) and potentially through app comparisons.

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in instructional design, with a focus on eLearning and simulation design.
  • Expertise in updating interactive simulations for software or technical products.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage deadlines and deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Familiarity with authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline or other simulation-based software preferred.
  • This is a unique opportunity for an instructional designer to have a direct impact on how agents interact with customers, improving their ability to provide support for the innovative glucose monitoring system.

Start: Late September
Duration: TBD based on evaluation and review of existing app and release notes

Hours: 40 hours per week
Location: 100% Virtual

The pay range is $65 to $70 per hour on an independent contractor basis. Individual pay is determined by a number of factors, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, relevant education, certifications and specific work location.
